Come on the Toon!

THE ladies of Ballymoney hockey club go into this week’s Ulster Shield Final against old foes Pegasus with a determined battle cry from manager Liz Lamont: “We can do it”.

Liz is a legend at the club and she will be hoping the glory days are brought back to the Toon when the Shield decider is played at Lisnagarvey’s premises in Hillsborough on Wednesday January 23 (7.30pm).

A large crowd of supporters is planning to make the journey to the other side of Lisburn to cheer on Ballymoney.
Liz Lamont’s name is synonymous with Ballymoney Hockey Club and she says that the two years since they won a trophy feels like a life-time.

“We will be giving it our best shot against Pegasus, make no mistake about that. We are all excited to be back in a big final and although many people would have preferred this game not to have been played in midweek - whatever day of the week it would have been - you can rest assured that we will be bringing our ambition and pride in the Ballymoney jersey to this match.

“If you want to win a cup competition you have to beat the big names and although they don’t come any bigger than Pegasus we hope to land the trophy on Wednesday night,” said Lamont.

* The Ballymoney players have each written a small description of their colleagues in the run up to the big final and their own words are included in the captions under the photos included with this story. The Times would like to thank the girls for taking the time to do this and wish them well in the Shield showdown.
