Comfortable victory for South’s Ladies

SOUTH Antrim Ladies recorded a comfortable victory in this Senior League 4 match at Laurelhill Sportzone.

The locals will be disappointed that they didn’t come away with a more convincing win, but will be pleased to have chalked up another three points.

South Antrim always looked in control of this game with the defence having its quietest day of the season so far.

The South midfield of Alannah Richardson, Jill Cooper and Danielle Heasley dictated matters and created some flowing movements on both flanks.

In attack for South Charis Seeds was finding plenty of space in front of the Inst defence, allowing her to play some exquisite passes to Ruth Young on the right wing.

South’s first penalty corner arrived after 10 minutes, but the execution was below par and the chance went by with no reward.

Shortly afterwards another penalty corner was expertly dispatched by Charis Seeds to put the home team one up.

South doubled their lead five minutes later when Ruth Young found herself one-on-one with the goal keeper after a through ball from Charis Seeds. Ruth calmly rounded the goalkeeper and passed the ball into the open net to record her first goal of the season. The South support relaxed and waited for the expected goal-rush.

The second half served up more of the same for the locals, without the finishing touch being applied. South piled on the pressure but couldn’t find the net a third time.

Charis Seeds was denied at another penalty corner and Danielle Heasley shot wide after great approach work from Ruth Young.

In the final quarter of the game, Inst made stirling efforts to get some consolation and South were made to work hard to keep a clean sheet.

Overall however this was always a game South were going to win and the outcome was never really in doubt.

Player of the match for South was Ruth Young for a great attacking display.
