Comfortable win for INF

AFTER the Christmas festivities it was back to league action last Thursday in the Craigavon District darts league sponsored by Bailie Amusements and it was INF who were the only victors on the night.

The INF had a comfortable 6-2 win over Stables who despite being a man down still performed well. It was the early games that won it for the INF with Marty Crossan getting his fifth league win of the season with a 2-0 win over Sammy Toman. Marty Murray made it 2-0 to the INF with a 2-1 win over Hugh Campbell but he had to come from a leg down with Hugh hitting an excellent 137 followed by a 76 checkout to win the first in 18 darts. Andy McConnon made it 3-0 to the Forresters with a 2-0 win over Dee McConville and with Lee Culbert receiving a bye the match was now 4-0. Roy White guaranteed the points with a 2-1 win over Brian Devine. Michael Lamb hit a 180 and got his 6th win of the season when he pulled one back for the Stables with a 2-0 win over Stevie McConnon.

It was the battle of the Tallon brothers again as the two captains Seamy and Shane went head to head with Seamy hitting an excellent 88 finish on the bull to claim the first leg. Shane responded with a 140 to claim the second leg in 21 darts and then saved the best for last when he gave Seamy little chance hitting a 60 checkout for a 17 dart leg to claim the win to make the match 5-2. Paddy Magill rounded the night off in 20 darts on his way to a 2-0 win over Gareth Bunting to finish the match 6-2 and keep the INF’s slight hopes of league honours alive.

Clann Eireann and the Trojans had to again share the points just like their previous encounter in week 4, but it was Clann Eireann who were the happiest having fought back from losing the first three games to take a point in a hard fought game of darts. Trojans got the perfect start when Andrew Colhoun had a 2-0 win over Chris Magee and David Vaughan doubled it with his second win in a row with a 2-0 win over Ciaran Magee. Shea Rutherford stopped Nathan McCabe’s three game win streak when he had a tight 2-1 win over Nathan to make it 3-0 on the night to the visitors.

Ciaran McMahon stopped the rot with a 2-0 victory over Andy Fairbairn and when Neil McCluskey beat Tony Rutherford Sr 2-0 it was game on again. Rab Lewis took a little pressure off the remaining Trojan players with a 2-0 win over Mick Hendron to guarantee at least a point for the Trojans and that is all they were to get as Mark Magee beat Joe McGahon 2-1 and Joe McCabe beat Paul Lewis by the same score to end the night with both teams winning 4 games each.

In the top of the table Clash Eire Og and Drumgor fought out a 4 all draw with there never being more than one leg in it the whole night. Drumgor took the lead when Clive Hanna beat Sam Frazier 2-0, but Micky Dunwoodie soon levelled it with a 2-1 win over Pearse Richardson. Both players had their chances in the next game but it was Mark McLernon who put Eire Og in front for the only time of the match with a 2-1 win over Eamon Duff.

League Individual winner Shane Lennon had an 18 darter on way to a 2-0 win over Dermy McStay to level it at 2-2. Stevie Duff kept up his good form getting his 6th win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Hugh Heaney but again it was soon level when Micky Campbell beat Michael Magliocco 2-0. In what was the best game of the night Noel Dunwoodie took the 1st leg in 19 darts only for Marty Craig to level it in the next. In the deciding leg Noel was unfortunate to narrowly miss a 152 checkout which would have been for a 15 darter but he wasn’t to get another shot as Marty took out 90 for the 2-1 win in 18 darts giving Noel his first league defeat of the season but more importantly giving Drumgor the 4-3 lead. In the final game of the night Chris Cinnamond had a 2-0 win over Paul Donnelly to give both teams a point apiece.

The Celtic club missed out on the chance to go joint top when being held to a 4-4 draw with the Premier. Dave McCusker give the Celtic the lead with a 20 darter which was followed by an excellent 16 dart leg for a 2-0 win over B Mallon and Mick Millar hit two 140’s and two 19 dart legs to complete a 2-0 win over Dee McCready to give the Celtic the early advantage.

Despite narrowly missing the bull for a 155 checkout, Dee Blaney pulled one back for the Premier with a 2-0 win over Dessie Dunbar to put a stop to Dessie’s five game win streak but the two match advantage was restored when Martin Haddock hit to steady 21 dart legs for a 2-1 win over Kevin McNeice. Brian McCavigan got his sixth league win of the season when he hit 5 big ton plus scores on his way to a 2-0 win over Anto Crewe who had won his previous six league matches with Anto also narrowly missing the bull for a 135 checkout.

In a high quality game that had 8 ton plus scores John Cinnamond came out on top against Tommy McErlene 2-1 to level the match at 3-3. Dee Breen got his sixth win of the season when he put the Celtic back in front hitting four 100’s, 121, 123 and a 140 for a 2-1 win over Simon Kendrick with Simon also hitting 4 ton plus scores. In the final match Keith Beale hit two 180’s alongside 5 other ton plus scores for 2-1 win over Adrian Hutchinson who had a 140 and a 121 to level the match at 4-4 in a game that had top quality darts from the start to finish by both teams.

Tonight (Thursday) sees the Blind pairs taking place in the INF club with all players asked to be at the venue for a 8.30pm start.
