Comfortable win for Portrush Seconds

PORTRUSH SECONDS 3 BALLYMENA SECONDS 1

PORTRUSH Seconds recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over neighbours, Ballymena Seconds, at the Quay Road Playing Fields in Ballycastle on Saturday.

Having recorded a fine win the previous week, Portrush were in confident mood and set about their task with some enthusiasm.

They had Ballymena on the back foot and in ten minutes took the lead with a well worked goal by Andy Christie who has been finding the back of the net with some regularity this season.

Ballymena bounced back and Portrush had to defend to protect their lead.

They weathered the storm and came back to get a second goal. A short corner found Peter McMullan who thundered a shot towards goal, the ball came back to him and his second attempt was successful. It was Peter’s first goal of the season.

Half time was 2-0 and in the second period, Portrush managed a third goal when Barry McMullan scored from open play.

Portrush were in a comfortable position, but then conceded a number of short corner and from one of these, Ballymena reduced the deficit, but their mini revival was never going to end in either a share of the spoils or victory as Portrush proved too good for them.
