Comfortable win for South Antrim Seconds

Annadale 3rds 0

South Antrim 2nds 4

South Antrim Seconds travelled to Carryduff to take on Annadale Thirds following a lengthy Christmas break, but it was business as usual as they ran out comfortable winners.

South displayed no festive ill effects as they began the game at a searing pace.

The first goal came after seven minutes when John Semple accepted a pass in the circle and expertly dispatched a reverse shot past the Annadale goalkeeper.

The score line should have improved for South minutes later when a flowing move involving Andy Hanley and James Brown set up an opportunity for Neil Wilson who tried to find John Semple when well placed in front of goal.

South Antrim continued to dominate but could not find the back of the net.

As the half wore on Annadale began to come more into the game and forced a number of penalty corners but failed to find a way past the South defence.

The second half began in similar fashion with Annadale looking more likely to get the next goal.

Andy Gardner in the South defence was doing his best to stifle Annadale attacks and Joaquim Noaves in goal for South was called upon to produce several excellent saves.

Having weathered this period of pressure, South again imposed themselves on the game.

A defence splitting run from Willie Redpath jnr resulted in a penalty corner being awarded and from the resultant move, John Semple tapped in at the far post for his and South’s second of the game.

This goal seemed to break the Annadale resistance and soon after Darren Hutchinson scored a well deserved goal with a blistering shot from a penalty corner.

South were now totally dominant and Jamie Cochrane completed the scoring with a neat reverse shot to make it 4-0.

South are now in the promotion slot in Junior 2 and will hope to keep this form going until the end of the season.
