Comfortable wins for B team as they pick up 12 points over two games

Having lost badly in their last home league contest to Pickie, it was important that the hosts got back to winning ways and restored some confidence.

Sure enough it was the rink that suffered so miserably in the Pickie game that led the way as Clifford Dennison’s four showed no ill effects from that game to thump their opposition by 21 shots.

Fergie Larkin’s consistant four kept up their good form with a comfortable 14 shot success while James Kelly also led his rink to victory, winning by 13.

Unfortunately, Robbie Gough’s four were unable to make it a clean sweep as they were unable to repeat the heroics from their Irish Cup tie last week and lost by 12 shots.

Rink 1: G Magennis, N Cunningham, P Adamson, F Larkin up 28-14 - This game was nip and tuck early on but a very strong second half performance saw the locals roar to victory.

Rink 2: T Gray, K Kelly, N Wilson, J Kelly up 27-14 - James and his four were in control throughout having opened up an early 12-5 lead after just seven ends. The locals kept their foot on the throttle and eased home by 13 shots at the close.

Rink 3: A Magennis, R McElroy, M McInerney, C Dennison up 32-11 - This was a very one sided encounter with the home quartet starting with a bang and never looking back. The lead was already double figures after the first third and by the 21 ends mark had risen to 21 shots.

Rink 4: J Gray, J Dennison, M Adamson, R Gough down 11-23 - Unlike the rest of the home rinks, Robbie’s foursome simply never got going. After the first third they trailed 4-7 and by the two thirds mark things had deteriorated to 7-17. The away rink simply played the better bowls and defeated Robbie’s four by 12 shots.

ON paper this was a banker away win as it was top v bottom and sure enough it proved to be the case.

However the visitors will be disappointed at not lifting maximum points.

It was a game that they controlled from start to finish, but unfortunately, similarly to Tuesday night, Robbie Gough’s four were unable to put ther icing on the cake, losing narrowly. A 51 shot win away from home was a smashing performance nonetheless.

Rink 1: A Magennis, R McElroy, M McInerney, C Dennison up 26-12 - This Gilford rink started brightly and never looked back. Over the final few ends the away side put their foot on the accelerator and scored 12 shots to their opponents 3 to win comfortably by 12 shots.

Rink 2: K Kelly, J Dennison, N Wilson, J Kelly up 29-12 - The first third of this game was no indication as to how the game would finish as only one shot separated the sides at 8-7. The remainder was proved very one sided as James’ four moved into top gear and thrashed their opponents by 17 shots.

Rink 3: G Magennis, N Cunningham, P Adamson, F Larkin up 30-12 - Of the four Dunbarton rinks, none started better than Fergie’s foursome as they very quickly moved into a 14-2 advantage. At the two thirds mark, the locals still held a 12 shot lead at 22-10 and in the run in, they eased even further clear winning by a thumping 18 shots.

Rink 4: J Gray, D Dennison, M Adamson, R Gough down 20-22 - Skip Robbie and his front three were involved in the closest battle on the green and this game went right to the wire. Rarely were either of the two rinks ahead by more than a handful of shots and after seven ends Robbie led by two, as he did also at the 14 ends stage. Unfortunately after the allotted 21 ends, it was the home rink that were ahead by two and condemned Robbie’s rink to a second defeat inside four days.

The Dunbarton B team have a busy week this week with a league match against Ulster Transport B on Tuesday, Private Greens Cup quarter final versus Downpatrick on Thursday and an Irish Junior Cup last 16 tie with Falls B on Saturday. On paper, the locals will expect another three victories to add to a very successful season thus far.
