Comrades face battle for survival

BALLYCLARE Comrades face a relegation dogfight this weekend after they lost 3-1 to Loughgall at Dixon Park on Tuesday night.

The result leaves Gordon Chambers' side third from bottom of IFA Championship 1, just a point ahead of Coagh United in the drop zone.

The Reds now face a daunting trip to high-flyers Limavady United on Saturday afternoon before completing their league campaign away to Ballinamallard on Monday evening.

With Glebe Rangers also in the mix it's a three-way fight for survival and the Comrades will no doubt be keeping tabs on the score at the Riada Stadium when the Ballymena side host Coagh on Saturday.

Last weekend league leaders Donegal Celtic got the better of the Reds for the fourth time this season,

"I couldn't have asked the players to give any more at Suffolk Road," said Chambers. "With three players unavailable because of injury and suspension we had to re-jig our midfield, with young Matt Boyd getting his first start where he turned in a fantastic performance, while no fewer than eight of our panel were aged twenty or under.

"We have given DC a run for their money in each of the four clashes this season, but they are title favourites while we have relegation concerns, so consistency makes the distance, and we will have to make that our aim next season."
