Conditions good for Saturday's parkrun

Conditions were quite good for Saturday's Portrush parkrun, although the high tide forced a slight change to the course, with the run starting just past the estuary, resulting in a loop back after half a kilometre to make up the distance.

Jennifer Patterson was congratulated on being the latest Portrush runner to complete 50 parkruns.

First registered finisher was Chris Gilbert of Belfast Running Club who crossed the line in 23.09.

And there was a fabulous Springwell one-two in the Ladies section, was Sonia Knox in third overall in 24:05 closely followed by Karen McLaughlin in 24:38. Fabulous running girls.

This week there were 130 runners, of whom 18 were first timers and two recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 10 different athletics clubs took part.

Given the softness of the sand, the two PB’s were well earned.

Elsewhere, Deborah Gilliland secured first Lady at Ormeau Park in Belfast.

Meanwhile, next weekend the club have nine runners from Limavady doing the ‘last one standing’ 48 hour race over Saturday/Sunday.

Basically you have to run a 4.2m loop every hour until you can no longer do it within an hour.

They are doing it for a charity called Shelterbox and donations can be made via their Facebook/Just Giving pages.

They are hoping to break the 100mile mark each.

They hope to have fun (!?!) and raise some money for Shelterbox.
