Conditions perfect for RIB heat

EAST Antrim Boat Club hosted a heat of the Honda Royal Yachting Association (RYA) youth RIB championship in ideal calm and sunny condiitions.

The heat involved the competitors driving a RIB around a course and against the clock. The competitors previously went through a period of instruction and are accompanied by an instructor throughout.

The championships are a national event in which eight to 16-year-old Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) drivers can demonstrate their skills with the goal of winning a 4.8m RIB with a Honda engine for their club.

The winners from the heats were:

Assisted age group - 1. Lucy Kane, 2. Rossa Cross, 3. Conal Cross.

Eight-12 age category - 1. Rory Fekkes, 2. Rob Salters, 3. Callum Macrae.

13 – 16 age category - 1. Gary Fekkes, 2. Katie Kane and 3. Helen Rutherford.

The first two competitors from the eight-12 and 13 – 16 age categories will now go forward to the Northern Ireland finals to be held at Kinnego marina, Lough Neagh on May 15.
