Confident Seconds win at Comber Road

BANBRIDGE travelled to Comber Road with Ross McCandless returning to the team and buoyed with confidence from their opening win over Kilkeel.

Garvey had finished second in Junior One last season behind Bann so the locals knew they were in for a tough encounter and true to form Garvey started strongly, venturing into the Bann half several times however the Bann defence managed to overcome the early attacks.

The new look midfield of Forbes, McCandless and McShane managed to gain some possession and release Woods, McKee and Livingstone going forward.

Garvey won the first corner of the match but Anderson managed to clear the drag flick off the line.

Play was now end to end and Livingstone found young McKee in the Garvey 25. After eliminating two Garvey defenders released a reverse stick shot past the Garvey keeper.

Bann continued to press forward and a last minute short corner saw McCandless’s drag flick well saved.

Garvey started brightly in the second half using their full bench to great avail and Mooney had to be sharp in the Bann goal to keep Bann in front.

Bann were causing Garvey problems on the counter attack and after a couple of short corners McCandless powered a drag flick past the Garvey keeper.

Garvey keep a high pace to the game and managed to pull a goal back after a quick attack found a Garvey player free in the circle and he finished well on his reverse.

Bann worked their way back into the game with Livingstone and McKee causing the Garvey defence all number of problems and after winning another short corner McCandless regained Bann’s two goal lead with a trademark drag flick.

Garvey continued to press forward and Mooney made several good saves including a couple drag flicks from short corners.

Bann managed to defend the remaining ten minutes and the win puts Bann to the top end of the league after two victories. Bann face another tough away game next week to Instonians
