Connolly's win crunch clash to boost title hopes

Connolly's did their Ballymena Towers Pool League title hopes a power of good by winning their top-of-the-table clash with Towers Tavern.

Of the other would-be contenders, Fairhill Hustlers won but dropped two points against Moat B, while champions Minnesota Inbetweeners could only draw at Moat A.

Towers Tavern 2, Connolly’s 4: Drew Sloan won the opening game against Gary Clarke with a 2-1 come from behind win and this included an 8ball clearance in the final frame. Pat McAnally levelled the match with a similar win over Davy Millar and this also included an 8 ball clearance in the final frame. Alan Davidson then put Connolly’s ahead with another 2-1 come from behind win over James Millar.Ian Boal then made the match score 3-1 for Connolly’s with a win in straight frames over Shane Moody and Don McKeown increased the lead further for Connolly’s with a 2-0 win over Dean Greer. In the final game K.D.Crabbe pulled a point back for Towers with a 2-1 win over Ryan Foster.

Social Club 1, Fairhill Rockets 5: Rockets got off to a great start with Gary Allen having a 2-0 win over Ross Hill and Nigel McMaster increased the lead for the Fairhill with a 2-1 win over Eddie Fleck. Albert McBride then pulled a game back for the Social Club with a win in straight frames over Barry Kernohan. The final three games all went to Fairhill all by 2-0 scorelines, winners being Linzi McClelland, Ian Dewar and Justin Kilpatrick who defeated Marc McMullan, Alan Agnew and Keith Agnew.

Moat A 3, Minnesota Inbetweeners 3: Gary Ormandy put the Inbetweeners ahead with a fine 2-0 win over Jason McKay. Ryan Logan then increased the lead for the Inbetweeners with a 2-1 win over Ryan Stewart but then Barry Weir pulled a game back for the Moat with a win in straight frames over Philip Houston. Clem Howard made the match score 3-1 for the Inbetweeners with a 2-0 win over Alan Rainey. Darren Campbell and David Nicholl then replied for the Moat with both having 2-0 wins over Gareth Rowe and Craig Laughlin.

Coach Bar 1, Michelin Masters 5: Aidy Rouke won the first game against with a come from behind 2-1 win over Chris Penny but Rick McMaster levelled it up with a win in straight frames over Chris Gordon. David Armstrong put Michelin in front for the first time with a 2-1 win over David Carlisle. Alan Armstrong then made the match score 3-1 with a 2-0 win over Robert Artt. Brian Hanna had a 2-0 win over Darren Gilmore and Jimmy Knowles completed a fine win for Masters with a fine 2-1 win over Frazer Young.

Fairhill Hustlers 4, Moat B 2: George McCullough put the Fairhill ahead with a 2-0 win over Aaron Browne but Eddie Maxwell levelled the match with a 2-0 win over Ritchie Irwin. Glenn Mairs restored the lead for the Fairhill with a win in straight frames over Lewis Cahoon and Sean Brannigan made the match score 3-1 for the Fairhill with a 2-0 win over Neil Weir. Alastair Law then replied for the Moat with a 2-0 win over Rab Graham to set up a thrilling finale with Paul Hayes holding his nerve to win 2-1 against Dean Robinson to make the final match score 4-2 for the Fairhill Hustlers.
