Connor grabs medal at indoor championships

FOURTEEN year old Ballymena schoolboy Connor McQuillan claimed a fantastic second place in the Northern Ireland & Ulster juvenile indoor athletics championships staged at Magherafelt on Saturday afternoon.

Going in the 1500 metres, Connor was representing Fit N Running’s parent club North Belfast Harriers as he clipped an impressive 7 secs off his previous best for the distance crossing the line in 4 mins 45 secs.

This performance has earned Connor a place in the all Ireland Championship finals.

Four days earlier Connor proved his versatility, this time on the country as he secured qualification to the Ulster schools cross country finals at Mallusk which will be staged this Wednesday.

In atrocious conditions he claimed fifth place in the district heats at the University of Ulster grounds in Coleraine.

Connor who is coached by Gregory Walsh is a member of Ballymena club Fit N Running, based at the Michelin Athletic Club.
