Cookstown bowlers take Ballycastle to the fair

COOKSTOWN welcomed Ballycastle to Gunning Moore Park for their first home match of the season. Having disposed of Coleraine the previous week Cookstown were looking to chalk up another vital win to keep them on track with the pace setters.

On rink 2 Cookstowns Mark Wilson and his rink off Philip Wallace, William Lennox and Ashley Wright came up against the Ballycastle rink skipped by J McMullan. This game was very close throughout and could have swung any way. Though the experienced Cookstown rink pulled away in the last quarter off the match winning 21-12

On rink 3 Cookstowns Liam McHugh, Keith Wright, Thomas Allen and Tommy Johnston flew out off the traps opening up a large lead against Ballycastle’s J McCarry who had no answer to the superb bowling being produced by the Cookstown rink.

Liam and his rink were in total control and put in a fantastic shift running out 38-14 winners.

On rink 4 the Cookstown rink of Damien McElroy, Sean Quinn, Brian Thom and Paul Mitchell were pitted against Ballycastles F Morrow. Lead in this game changed numerous times though Damien and his rink rallied in the last 4 ends running out 23-20 winners.

On rink 6 Cookstowns Colin Hogg, Gary Scott, Noel Glasgow and Robert Aspeniall were locked in a tight battle with the Ballycastle rink skipped by N McNeill, Colin and his rink were behind in this game for long periods trailing 19-10 at the mid way point. With Hogg at the helm his never say die attitude and with some fine play by his rink reeled in McNeill and his rink who never scored again with Colin and his rink winning 24-19

This result now keeps Cookstown with the early pace setters in the league, next up for Cookstown is an away trip to face last years League champions Ballymoney. Spirit in the camp is high and Cookstown will go with the belief that they can keep their fine start intact.
