Cookstown High School Girls Hockey

On Saturday four teams travelled to Omagh to start their league campaign.

The 1st XI started nervously with the Omagh girls making several attacks, some strong defending by Amy Parke and Laura Sloan insured these were dealt with effectively and Beth Williamson in goals was determined not to let any goals in. After the first ten minutes the girls settled into the game and some strong runs by Emma McFarland and Jacqueline Burns added pressure to the Omagh defence.

The power up the right hand side of the pitch was proving to much for Omagh and numerous frees were awarded to Cookstown which they were unlucky to convert before half time.

The second half saw both teams come out strong and in a half which was evenly matched Cookstown managed to break away, a precision past to Charlene Scott saw her race past the Omagh defence and calmly slot the ball past the Omagh keeper. 1-0 Cookstown.

1st XI: Beth Williamson, Rachel Millar, Amy Parke, Laura Sloan, Alex Scott, Emma Faulkner, Erin Harpur, Anna McReynolds, Rebecca Smyth, Jacqueline Burns, Sharon Watt, Emma McFarland, Jill Somerville, Charlene Scott.

The 2nd XI had a tough encounter with Omagh and worked hard for the whole duration. Hannah Martin and Hannah Keane worked tirelessly in the centre of defence, whilst Kayleigh Hodgett in goal had an outstanding game to keep Cookstown in it.

Half time saw some changes to the squad and again Omagh pressed but Cara Sloan played some excellent hockey to stop the attacks down the right side of the pitch.
