Cookstown set for Ulster’s Strongest Man event

COOKSTOWN District Council will host the 2012 Ulster Heat of the Strong Man competition in Cookstown Town Centre on Monday 7 May.

This event provides an opportunity to showcase our town and reaffirm its position as the ‘Retail Capital of Mid-Ulster’.

The hosting of the Ulster Heat of the Strong Man could not have been delivered without the support of the event sponsors, namely the main sponsor for the event Signworks, with individual challenges sponsored by Evolve Fitness & Mid Ulster Sports Arena, Daddy Promotions, Cookstown Town Centre Forum, Lafarge and Mid Ulster Mail & Tyrone Times. In addition a number of local companies provided support as friends of the event.

Mary McCullagh, Town Strategy Manager, stated ‘Through securing the Ulster Heat of the Strong Man competition in Cookstown Town Centre, we anticipate increased footfall into the town on Bank Holiday Monday. With increased footfall into the town we hope that local businesses and traders will reap positive rewards. I greatly appreciate the co-operation from local businesses and traders opening their premises on Bank Holiday Monday and their continued support for such events.”

“ I encourage visitors to the town to show their support to local businesses by browsing in the town’s array of shops and finding that special item this Bank Holiday Monday. Let’s hope that the sun shines, and the towns assets are showcased in full bloom to visitors from near and far.’

To facilitate the delivery of the event road closures will be in place from 7.30am - 6.00pm along James Street, from the Molesworth junction to the Burn Road junction.
