Cookstown Snooker League

THE Cookstown Snooker League is really hotting up as last year’s winner Brian Milne was playing catch-up when he took on young Joe Loughran. This contest was all set to be a thriller with experience against youth and Brian started the stronger with several small breaks to take the opening frame.

Brian is a solid player as he proved by taking the next leaving the score 2-0. Joe was in all sorts of trouble in the third and he could only watch as Brian produced a magnificent 101 to earn himself three valuable points. Brian having played a match now entered the fray with Paul McGuckin.

Brian got of to a flying start by claiming the two opening frames to take a 2-0 lead. In the third there was breaks from both players, Brian had a 36 and Paul hit back with a 55 to leave the score 2-1 and to take the match into the fourth and final frame. Paul stepped up and took the fourth to leave the final score 2-2. Conor Gillespie played his final league match against Joe Loughran in Mitchell’s Snooker Club.

Joe produced a 31 break to take control and with a perfect 27 clearance in the next to take a 2-0 lead. Conor hit back with a 28 and a 24 break to take the third to pull a frame back, but Joe was to hit back in the fourth to take the victory against his close friend to win 3-1.

The Cookstown Open Individual will be starting directly after the league ends so past and present snooker players wishing to take part must contact Tommy McCrea as soon as possible.
