Cormac wins Ballycastle Midweek Stableford

Cormac O’ Connor produced the round of the day on Wednesday to win the Midweek Stableford competition at Ballycastle by a margin of four points.

Playing of 11, Cormac started off with 7 straight pars and whilst he had 5 bogeys on his card he also recorded 2 birdies to offset any damage done.

Runner up was Gerry Norwood with 40 points who beat Philip Cullen on countback.

Ruairi Bonnar playing off 17 got Ballycastle’s Open Week off to a flying start on Saturday when he returned a fine 44 points in the stableford competition sponsored by club professional Damien Mc Evoy. Starting with a birdie at the 1st he consolidated his position with 3 further birdies in his round to clinch the premier spot by a margin of 3 points from Paul Casey.

Division 1 winner was John Higgins Jnr. who returned an excellent level par round to post a score of 41 points. Whilst John had 5 bogeys on his card these were offset by 5 birdies and this enabled him slip past Gerard Dowds by a margin of 1 point.

Liam Mc Gonigle playing off 14 captured the Division 2 section with a score of 40 points beating Michael Mc Afee on countback. Michael played both nines very consistently with 20 points in each half.

Whilst Liam trailed Michael by a point after the front 9 he managed to register 21 points on the back 9 to enable him claim the spoils. Local fisherman Kevin Morton netted the Division 3 section with a score of 38 points which was just 1 point ahead of 4 players headed by Davy Douglas.
