Council members cycle Mizen to Malin 2013

FOLLOWING on from last year’s success, this year 2013, the Coleraine Borough Council team supported by the Bann Wheelers, intends to cycle the length of Ireland - Mizen to Malin - in four days, a total distance of 420 miles.

The Team’s chosen charity is Cancer Focus Northern Ireland (NI) - Lymphoma Research.

In July 2012, twelve members of Coleraine Borough Council stood on the top of the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales -Scafell, Ben Nevis and Snowdon to raise money for a local charity. This was achieved within 24 hours and by conquering this challenge raised £4000.

This year, the team plan to commence their journey from Mizen to Malin on 22 May 2013. In order to cope with the 100 miles cycle each day for four days, the team of twelve have been fulfilling a gruelling training schedule. Not only to gain the necessary level of fitness, but to prepare certain parts of the body for long days in the saddle!

The cycle team is grateful for the support of the Bann Wheelers, but also the sponsors, whose generosity is greatly appreciated and much needed, especially generous considering the economic climate. Lindsey Ford Coleraine is supporting the venture through the provision of a support vehicle, whilst North Coast Leisure in Portrush is providing the technical support.

Whilst the team will undertake events to raise money and individually seek sponsorship, any donations will be extremely welcome. For more information please contact Shirley Jackson, Team charity coordinator at Coleraine Leisure Centre on 028 7035 6432 or log on to Council’s website www.colerainebc.gov.uk for more details.
