Countdown underway to the Purple Ladies 5K

A spokesperson for the club said: “The numbers of ladies running has increased dramatically over the last few years.

“Entries have been flooding in and it looks like we will have well over 200 ladies competing on Wednesday evening.

“The run is open to all ladies over the age of 14 years old and covers a distance of 5K (approximately 3 miles).

“This event gives all ladies the chance to walk or jog at their own pace around the route as Springwell Running Club are continuing to promote health and fitness in the area whilst raising the profile of female sport.

“It is hoped that this is to be a fun event. Marshalls will be positioned around the course to encourage everyone and ensure their safe passage along the route.”

The Registration and pack collection is available in the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre from 6.00pm. Entry fees are £9 (affiliated) or £11 (unaffiliated) and there is a Technical T-shirt for the first 250 entries.

As well as there being prizes for winners in all age categories there will be various spot prizes.

After the run there will be a chance to talk to fellow runners and members of Springwell Running Club whilst enjoying some post-race refreshments.

The route for the 5K is as follows: Start - Car Park adjacent to 3G Pitch, through Car Park, right turn round back of Leisure Centre, out top gate left turn onto Garrydfuff Road, left turn onto Ballymena Road, left turn onto Armour Avenue, right turn into Riverside Park, right turn onto Bravallen Road, right turn onto Gate End, right turn onto Seymour Street, over footbridge into park, right turn into Raceview, left turn onto Raceview Road, right turn onto Jubilee Way to the Finish.
