County Antrim Harriers out in force at local race

On Wednesday evening a four-strong ladies’ team took part in the Purple Ladies 5k Race in Ballymoney.

Carnmoney’s Lisa Barrett led them home with a personal best of 22:56.

She was followed by Christine Neeson (25:56), Marion Morrow (27:54) and Eileen Stewart (29:14).

On Friday evening the club’s most competitive athlete, Christine Murray, ran in the Les Jones Memorial 10k at Malone in Belfast.

Despite aggravating a back injury on the very steep uphill section at the 8k mark at the rear of Barnett’s Park, she bravely ran on and was pleased to cross the finish line at the Mary Peters track in 44:25. Her time meant she claimed third place in the FV40 category.

Murray’s result comes on the back of her recent win at the Fire Service Ladies’ 10k Championship at the Dick Wedlock Memorial race which ws held in Glasgow.

In Saturday’s park run 5k time-trials Heather White clocked 23:36 at the Waterworks, with Bob Carson gaining at personal best of 23:05 at Victoria Park.

Greg Hopkins was a little further back, finishing in 28:22.

Over at Stormont estate Ally Bennett, always one of the first to support charitable causes, took part in a 5 mile charity steeplechase organised by East Down Athletic Club.

In spite of an absolute drenching in the heavy rain, she thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.
