Course record set in Adair Shield at Royal

A SUPERB two round aggregate of 142 saw Patrick McCrudden win the Adair Shield at Royal Portrush on Sunday.

Not content with just winning it, Patrick also added a new course record by returning a 68 in his second round.

His round one score was relatively uneventful, a couple of birdies at 2 and 11 but a few bogies, 6, 14, 16 and 18. However, once he got into round two everything changed.

A birdie 3 at the fourth was followed by an eagle 3 at the ninth and a birdie at ten. The only blip of the round was a bogie 4 at the par eleventh. Further birdies were added at twelve and sixteen to leave Patrick nine shots ahead of runner-up Anthony Murphy on 151.

While it would have taken some score to overhaul the winner, Anthony’s first round of 77 contained numerous bogies and left him needing an exceptional score from the afternoon session. A 74, a very good return in normal circumstances, was not enough and Anthony remained in second spot.

The best nett of the day was recorded by Craig Wilson with his total of 146.
