CRICKET: Coleraine win again

COLERAINE'S recent good form in the Progressive Senior League continued last week as they beat neighbours Portrush by 18 shots at Ramore Head.

Mervyn McKee got the ball rolling for the visitors with a 13-shot win over Jackie Smyth. Gary McCloy reduced the deficit by four as he beat Victor Dallas before the break.

But Richard McDermott's one shot win over Ian McClure along with Jonathon Calvin's seven shot defeat of Kevin O'Neill gave the Lodge Road outfit the spoils.

Portrush bounced back against second placed Dunluce as they recorded a five shot win in Bushmills.

Uel McKeeman and Barry Kane gave the hosts a 10-shot lead at the break, but Portrush hit back through Jackie Smyth and Ian McClure to seal the overall win.

Brookgreen are in third spot but suffered a mixed week as they went down by six shots at home to Portglenone. But the Brook Street lads bounced back against City of Derry with a 29-shot win. D Gaile and B Lindsay did the damage as they won by 17 and 16 shots respectively.

In Division One long time leaders Ballymoney B were knocked off top spot as they went down by seven shots at home to Cookstown B.

George McHugh recorded a 28-shot win over RJ McBride, but Owen Steele's 16-shot win over S Jeffers brought the hosts back into it. Archie Scott reduced the deficit further as he beat D Mitchell by six, but G Smith's one shot over T Smith wrapped up the game for the visitors.

Limavady kept their promotion hopes alive with a 12-shot win at home to Brooke Park. Both sides won two rinks each but it was Wilfie Morre's 18-shot over Ken McConomy sealed the win for the home side.

Portrush B are leading the way in Division Two following their 12-shot away win at Kilrea. John Weeks, Ken Shannon and G Scott all won for the visitors to give them six points.

Fairhill are in second spot following their 19-shot home win over Coleraine B. Johnny Elder was the visitors only winning skip with I Hutchinson, T Hutchinson and S Kells all replying for the hosts.

Castlerock picked up a good win at City of Derry. Both sides won two rinks each but Clive Hutchinson's 11-shot win over B Lyttle sealed the win for the visitors.

Brookgreen picked up a valuable win with an 18-shot defeat of Limavady B. R McClements, N McMullan and S Mitchell all won for the home side to give them the six points.

Letterkenny still top Division Three as they picked up another win this time at home to Lisnagelvin. Dunluce B picked up 6.5 points at Portstewart following their seven shot win.

Culrathain were also winners as they beat Riada by nine shots. R Campbell, J Austin and H Connor were all victorious for the hosts.

Meanwhile the Progressive Sutherland Cup final will be between Ballycastle and Ballymoney B. Ballycastle secured their place in this Friday night's final with a 37-shot win over Castlerock last week.
