The Bleachgreen side asked club members to video themselves trying to hit the stumps with their first delivery in a variety of locations, and such was the success of the promotion that they were able to present the Trust with an initial cheque for £250.

“These have been extremely challenging times for everyone recently so it is amazing to see Ardmore thinking outside the box and supporting a local charity like ourselves. Support like this enables us to continue to deliver our vital and unique service.”

The gauntlet has now been thrown down to other cricket clubs in the NW and the wider community, with Irish international Boyd Rankin encouraging as many people as possible to participate.

“It’s great to hear what Ardmore and Chris are doing for the Foyle Down Syndrome Trust. It’s a very worthy cause during a challenging time,” admitted the Bready man.

“I would encourage as many clubs and individuals as possible to get involved to help them. I wish Chris and his team well with the fundraiser.”

Ardmore CC member Damien Gallagher, whose daughter Lois attends the FDST said: “There are two club members whose children attend the FDST and in these tough times for all charities, we thought we would try and help raise some much needed funds.

"Chris and his team do such wonderful work, and everyone was only too glad to help. It was great fun and Lois got the ball rolling by being the first to hit the stumps!”

If you would like to help and participate, the FDST have created a VirginGiving page where people can make donations.
