Awards success for Wayne Hughes

Head youth coach at Derriaghy Cricket Club Wayne Hughes was honoured with 3rd place in the Coach of the Year category at the Draynes Farm Lisburn and Castlereagh Sports Personality awards which were held recently in the Lisburn Civic Centre.

This is the second year that Wayne has been placed third.

Wayne, who is a ECB qualified level 2 coach, has overseen the position as head youth coach at the Derriaghy club for the past two years and is now also one of the coaches working with the NCU Under 13 development squad.

In the season just past Wayne played a major role in Derriaghy’s three under age teams making a clean sweep of league titles.

The U11s also reached the semi-final of their cup competition while the U13s repeated their 2014 league success.

The U15s playing in the Premier section for the first time, lost only once in capturing their league title.

Many of the Under 13 and Under 15 players have progressed into the club’s senior ranks and some played a vital part in the Third XI winning their league.

Success at the club also filtered up to First XI where they lifted the Ulster Bank Senior League 1 and with it a place in the Premier section next year.

Meanwhile, Derriaghy Cricket Club have begun their pre season strength and conditioning for all senior players at Wallace HS.
