Awful Ulster Cup weekend for North West sides

Seven North West clubs were involved in first round matches in the O’Neills sponsored Ulster Cup on Saturday and only one of them made it into the second round.

The only winners were Bready who travelled to Muckamore and after bowling the home side out for just 99 they struggled before winning by two wickets.

Brigade entertained Lisburn and lost by 4 runs, the visitors scored 223 for 5 with ex-Fox Lodge pro Darryl Brown top scoring with 67 not out, the Beechgrove top order let them down as they slumped to 43 for 4 before Johnny Thompson and Mattie Moran added 79 for the fifth wicket before both departed, Mark Simpson and Simon Dunn shared in a 38 run last wicket stand but they ran out of overs.

Belfast side Instonians were to good for Eglinton scoring 252 for 7 with their professional Imad Wasim scoring 122, they then dismissed the villagers for 141 with Richard Wylie top scoring with 28.

Coleraine travelled to North Down, the Comber men made 205 for 7 and the Bannsiders never looked like chasing the total down and were all out for 140 with Scott Campbell top scoring with 38.

Strabane made 180 for 6 in their game at CIYMS with young Aaron Gillespie hitting a fine 62, the home side lost just two wickets with their professional Rassie Van Der Dussen scoring an undefeated 116.

Fox Lodge’s season goes from bad to worse visiting Waringstown the men from the Lawn scored 241 for 4 with James Hall scoring 132 not out, the Foxies were shot out for just 53.

Ardmore lost by eight wickets at the Bleachgreen where Civil Service North were the visitors, the home side scored 150 with Gary Neely hitting 35, Griffin Nieuwouldt was undefeated with 109 for the winners.

The draw for the quarter finals sees Donemana entertain Lisburn while Bready have a home tie against North Down.

On Sunday, in the Premiership Bready went top of the table after narrowly defeating Ardmore, while Coleraine had a comfortable win over Fox Lodge.
