The cricket ground’s perimeter fence had become an eyesore due to old, peeling paint and the club’s staff were keen to give it a makeover to enhance the ground’s appearance.A team of four volunteers took six weeks to brighten up the fence with vibrant blue paint, which provides a contrast to the green grass. The new-look fence also makes it easier for cricket players to see the ball during play.

The paint was kindly donated by Dulux Decorator Centres in Londonderry, after the club’s chairman, Adrian Torrens, nominated the project online.

“Brigade Cricket Club is a very historic club in our local area but there was no denying the ground needed a makeover to help return it to its former glory,” stated Mr Torrens.

“We’re very grateful for the paint donation which has made such a difference and we’ve heard plenty of positive feedback from members young and old.

“The club has been a part of this community for more than 100 years and now we’re all looking forward to welcoming the next generation of cricket stars through our gates.”

Richard Warren, store manager of Dulux Decorator Centres on Queens Quay, said: “It’s been a real pleasure to support Brigade Cricket Club and the volunteers have done a great job of brightening up the ground.

“We’re glad the club’s new look has been well received and we hope the makeover encourages even more aspiring cricketers to take to the crease in the coming years.”
