Britton signs for Brigade

BRIGADE continue to strengthen their squad for the 2013 season, with the addition of ex-Limavady bowler Andy Britton.

Having already added Ryan Hunter and Ian McGregor recently, Britton’s signing is a big plus for the Beechgrove side, as he is one of the leading opener bowlers in the North West.

The 25-year-old had a decent season at the Hunter Grounds last time, picking up 41 wickets and scoring 369 runs with the bat.

He was also recalled to the full Ireland side last summer, claiming his second cap against South Africa ‘A’, and his addition to the Waterside men’s attack will make Gareth McKeegan’s side a formidable proposition.

“Brigade have put together a very good side this year and I’m looking forward to playing my part. I’ve suggested to JT that he will now have to switch ends so I suppose we’ll have to wait to see how that goes,” stated Britton.

“I’m still very keen to be involved both in the Inter Pro and Ireland set ups and the only way to do that will be by showing form at club level. I think we have a good enough side here now to be competing for all the main trophies.”

Confirming the new acquisition a spokesperson for Brigade said: “We have been keen to bring in another genuinely quick bowler and are delighted to have somebody of Andy’s quality at Beechgrove. While his main focus will be to spearhead the attack he is also a very competent batsman who will add real depth to the order.

“Andy is the type of player who can turn games and we believe he is the final piece in the set for us now and that our side has a very balanced look about it. The players are now looking forward to a good pre-season and getting ready for what looks set to be a thrilling summer.”
