Busy weekend for cricket clubs

Lisburn Cricket Club face the challenge of Lurgan this weekend when they compete in the first round of the Senior Challenge Cup.

Lisburn travel to Lurgan tomorrow (Saturday) to play in the cup, and they will need to post a more than average score to beat a team on their usually excellent Pollock Park wicket.

They must look for much more runs from their early batsmen without leaving the task to professional Chetty and Lisburn’s player of the season up to now, Stevie Lazars.

They must also make a great effort not to gift the opposition runs, Lisburn gave away no less than 37 extras including 30 wides.

The game starts at 12 noon.

For Derriaghy, meanwhile, this week sees the start of the Lagan Valley Steels T20 group stages with Derriaghy travelling to Carrick on Friday (13th) in a match that starts at 6pm.

On Saturday they travel again, this time in the AJG Challenge Cup to face Donaghcloney at the Factory Ground. Play here begins at 12 noon.A busy weekend awaits the local cricket clubs.
