The former International Umpire and current Bready groundsman was successful in the Shepherd-Frindall awards - the annual recognition of members of the ECB Association of Cricket Officials.

Their title commemorates the iconic umpiring and scoring work of the late David Shepherd and Bill Frindall.

There are several award categories involved however Davy was nominated by IACUS in the Lifetime Achiever section and was one of two category winners.

Nominations come from county officials’ associations in England and Wales or national associations in Europe.

The Awards are presented at the ECB ACO Annual Conference at Lord’s – this year’s was held last Saturday and was attended by a sell-out crowd of 400 members.

Unfortunately Davy wasn’t able to attend in person but the award was collected on his behalf by his umpiring colleague Raj Padmanabhan.

Davy is the first recipient from outside England and Wales since the Awards were inaugurated in 2010.

Speaking after the award, former IACUS Chairman, Dr Murray Power said “Davy Caldwell has been a tireless worker for cricket in the North-West for longer than most of us can remember.

“As player, umpire, tutor and groundsman he has always set and achieved the highest standards and he richly deserves this very special recognition from his colleagues throughout these islands.”
