Carrick CC Youth teams progress in Cup matches

Carrickfergus Cricket Club’s Under-11 and Under-13 teams, both coached by Mikey Taiaroa, progressed in their respective cup competitions this week.

The Under-11s travelled to Bangor for a first-round Quoile Cup match last Tuesday and won by six wickets. The home team batted first and were bowled out for 63 in the 19th of their 20 overs, with seven-year-old Charlie Burton picking up three wickets and Max Harrington taking two.

Ben Buchanan-Rolleston played a super innings for his side and, with good support from Max Harrington, added 42 runs for the third wicket. Ben finished unbeaten on 37 with five boundaries as he saw his side home to victory in the 18th over.

The Under-13s visited Saintfield in the round one of the Banoge Cup, and came home with a comfortable 42-run win. After losing an early wicket, Max Burton and Kofi Balmer saw the 50 up for their side in only the seventh over. They shared in a partnership of 90 runs before Kofi run out for 30, which included two fours and two sixes. Max batted throughout the Carrick innings and finished just 10 runs short of his hundred at the end of his side’s 20 overs, as they posted a very respectable total of 144 for three. Saintfield were all out in the 19th over for 102. Sam Cavey and Max Burton picked up two wickets each for Carrick.
