It all started very well for Carrick, with Woodvale, who batted first, struggling for the first 25 overs.

At the drinks interval they were on 52 for 4 with Indrajeet Kamtekar conceding only six runs in the eight overs he had bowled. However, when the game re-commenced Woodvale’s Sujit Kalbhor and Neil Connelly decided to go on the offensive, with devastating effect.

In the space of the next 25 overs, they completely transformed the match adding a further 181 runs before Connelly was dismissed for 66 in the 50th and final over.

Kalbhor completed a fine century off the penultimate delivery of the innings, by which time the Woodvale total had reached a formidable 235 for 5.

With rain threatening and a result obtained if 20 or more overs were bowled, Carrick knew it was imperative to keep ahead on the Duckworth-Lewis formula.

After losing a wicket in the first over, Jamie Holmes who was in superb form, completed a fine 50 from only 39 balls. He and skipper Iain Parkhill had kept them well ahead, before Holmes was caught on the boundary for 60 in the 13th over, with the score on 83.

Parkhill was caught behind in the 19th over, and after 20 overs Carrick, on 98 for 3, were still seven runs ahead of where they needed to be, but the rain had not yet materialised.

From then on it was all downhill for Carrick, as they fell further and further behind the required scoring rate, and lost wickets at regular intervals.

Of the remaining batsmen, only Ivan Walker (26) put up any resistance, and they were all out in only the 37th over for 152.
