Carrick U15s book spot in Graham Cup semi-finals

Carrickfergus Cricket Club’s Under-15s won their Graham Cup quarter-final with Derriaghy at Middle Road by 60 runs on Friday evening, taking them into the last four of the NCU’s premier youth competition.

A fine half-century by skipper Jack Burton, with good support from younger brother Max and AJ Hussell, enabled Carrick to score 148 for 3 in their 20 overs. Derriaghy started well, taking 25 off the first three overs, but wickets soon began to tumble as they collapsed to 57 for 9 after 11 overs.

A spirited last-wicket partnership eventually saw them reach an all-out total of 88 in 15 overs.

Jack Buchanan-Rolleston took three wickets, with Samuel Osborne and Adam Crook picking up two apiece, to see Carrick through to an away semi-final at Cregagh on June 20.

Meanwhile, Carrick III enjoyed a comfortable 32-run victory over North Down IV at Middle Road on Sunday.

Carrick batted first and scored 161 for 6 in their 25 overs, with youngsters Samuel Osborne (57 not-out) and Simon Scott (44) the main contributors.

Despite an unbeaten 88 from Johnston, the visitors could only manage to score 129 for 9. Carrick’s Jack Buchanan-Rolleston took three wickets, while Scott and Stuart Jackson claimed two each.
