Carrickfergus reach last four

Carrickfergus reached the semi-finals of the Arthur J Gallagher NCU Challenge Cup last night as Muckamore crumbled in spectacular fashion at Moylena.

Chasing just 159 to win, with nine wickets in hand, Muckamore were favourites resuming the game on 17 for one. Saturday’s tie had been halted because of an illness to Carrick wicketkeeper Gordon Browne.

However, the Section One’s reply never got started last night, with veteran bowler Ryan Eagleson ripping through their batting order by taking five for 12 in eight overs.

Muckamore were dismissed for just 76 in 22 overs. Carrick travel to CIYMS in the semi-finals.

n Carrickfergus Cricket Club held its annual Kwik Cricket tournament for local primary schools at Middle Road recently, with 12 teams and over 100 children taking part.

Woodlawn PS were the eventual winners, defeating Whitehead PS in a closely contested final. The tournament was well organised by Carrickfergus coach Jamie Holmes who was assisted by Pat Botha, Alex Haggan, Kyle Hutton, Lee Murdock, Adam Crook and Jonny Boggs.
