After the hosts posted a daunting 304 for 5 in their 50 overs, Matthew Palmer’s lads were up against it and they eventually fell 140 runs short, when dismissed for 164 in 36.3 overs.

A third-wicket stand of 189 between Ryan Haire (106) and Sam Gordon (96) put the game well beyond Academy’s reach, while M Gill (23 not out) and J Magowan (20) also made significant contributions.

Mitch Atkins was ACC’s most successful bowler with 3 for 52, with support from Brian Boyd (one for 32) and Waqas Mohammad (one for 69).

Academy’s best partnership was one of 49 for the second wicket between Danny McFadden (35) and Atkins (36), while Andre Halbert top scored with 59.

Club secretary Jack Quinn said: “Muckamore were one of the strongest teams we played this season and they were comprehensive winners after knocking up over 300 runs. We have had a very satisfying first season in Section One and we complete our programme on Sunday at Lurgan.”
