Cricket: Captain Moore wants more glory

It may have been a big weekend at Drummond after their promotion-clinching win against Creevedonnell on Saturday but while they partied hard on the night, skipper Steve Moore is well aware that they have one more big game to come before they start to regroup over the winter.

As well as the Championship the Roe Valley team have also had one eye on this season’s National Cup where they will take on Dublin side Rush at Strabane Park in Sunday’s final.

The Drummond captain said that his team was looking forward to the final but that promotion had always been the main aim this summer.

“We’ve worked hard this year; in fact we’ve worked hard for the past couple of years so our promotion isn’t out of turn.

I thought we’d had chances over the past couple of seasons but things never fell quite right for us but the additional of a couple of key players this summer did the trick.

“We enjoyed our night after winning the league and are looking forward to playing in the Premier League in 2016. We have plenty of players with experience of playing in the top flight and one or two of us were around the last time we played in it.

“Before we can think about that however we are looking forward to playing Rush in the National final on Sunday. It should be a great occasion but we’re well aware that they will be as good as any team we’ve played this season.

“We don’t know an awful lot about them individually however they have always been one of the strongest sides in their region and they are going to be a very tough team to beat. We can take plenty of confidence from the summer we’ve had too, so hopefully it will be a good contest.

“I expect Ricky McDaid to return from his recent injury and if he does, it gives us a full deck to play with. I’d like to think in a one-off game we’re capable of mixing it with anyone at this level so we aren’t going to Strabane with any inferiority complex.”
