Cricket: Duo sign overseas professionals

The Bleachgreen men have confirmed the signing of 23-year-old wicket keeper batsman Zandre Swart, while Glendermott have signed top order batsman Eden Links.

Swartz has played six times in South African first-class cricket with Griquiland West and comes with both serious coaching and playing credentials.

“We needed a keeper to replace Adrian Murphy who has left the club,” said a Ardmore spokesperson.

“Zander seems to fit our criteria perfectly in that he’s a quality batsman and top class keeper. We’ve got great reports back on his playing abilities and also for his coaching which he’s developed quite a reputation for despite his age.

“I’m sure he’ll be a great addition to the club and we’re looking forward to him playing in the Premier League at the Bleachgreen in 2015.”

As for Links is the man in question and the top order batsman is in cracking form at the minute having just posted a century for Northern District against North West in a 4-day game.

Glendermott skipper Gordon Montgomery said that he was looking forward to welcoming Links to the Waterside.

“I have no doubt that Eden will fit in well at the club and the fact that he is keen to coach was a major factor for us. He is a specialist batsman who also bowls off spin and we are hoping he will spearhead our attempt to get back into the Premier Division.

“The Championship looks like being fiercely competitive next season with nearly every club fancying their chances and we certainly hope to be among the contenders.

“We will be starting our pre-season work fairly early in the New Year before welcoming Eden to Bonds Street in April. The club would like to thank Gary Hunt for his assistance in securing this deal on our behalf.”
