CRICKET: Ireland v South Africa in Coleraine

Excitement is mounting as Coleraine Cricket Club prepares to host a four day cricket match between an Ireland XI and South Africa A starting on Monday 13 August.

It is 21 years since Coleraine last hosted a match of this standing and follows on from the very successful U19 World Cup Qualifiers last year.

A Coleraine spokesman said: “We are thrilled to get this match and believe we have earned it because of the major improvements to our ground over the last few years. South Africa A will be the highest profile cricket team ever to visit Coleraine.”

Many of the stars of Irish cricket will be in Coleraine as well as the best emerging players from South Africa. The Coleraine public will get the chance to see some top class cricket and it will be free admission to the ground each day from Monday 13th to Thursday 16 August.

The Ireland XI will be selected next week with all the home based stars available and possibly some of those with English Counties as well.

Kevin O’Brien, Trent Johnston, Alex Cusack and John Mooney have never played in Coleraine before so it will be a new experience for both players and spectators.
