The match came about after the club was contacted by Lurgan man Peadar McMahon, who, having got a taste for cricket during a trip to Australia, wanted to feed his passion upon his return home.

Lurgan RFCC Director Graeme Hunter said: “Peadar wanted to play cricket and he knew a few other boys who wanted to play so he assembled the Leprechauns and we had them up here the last couple of weeks for some practice sessions before the game against the Taverners (Rugby and Cricket Club select XI) on Friday night.

“Everyone who took part really enjoyed it and Peadar himself has signed for Lurgan Cricket Club off the back of it.”

Paedar said: “I believe cricket is a great sport that has been widely regarded as a sport for one side of our local community and I hope this will raise awareness and give all people the opportunity to experience it.”

Elsewhere, the fun night provided the opportunity for kids to take on their parents at tag rugby and kwik cricket. There was also a barbecue and music to add to the family atmosphere.
