Cricket: Newbuildings to make history at Foyle College

The Danske Bank North West Senior Cup takes centre stage on Saturday, with most teams looking to bounce back from last weekend’s Irish and National Cup defeats.

Brigade v Glendermott

Always plenty of crowd noise when these two meet, the home side have had a poor start to the season winning one out of their two league games and then defeated in the Irish cup last week where only three of their batsmen managed to get into double figures.

Glendermott are scoring plenty of runs but their bowling hasn’t been consistent enough, their main aim is to get promoted this season but they would love to win this one.

Prediction: Brigade.

St Johnston v Ardmore

Even at this early stage of the season the Saints are finding things tough, they just can’t get a decent total on the board to many of their batsmen are struggling for form.

Ardmore did manage to make it to the next round of the Irish cup however they to are struggling with the bat, they don’t have any problems in the bowling department with Gary Neely and Conor Brolly especially in top form.

Prediction: Ardmore.

Burndennett v Killyclooney

This all championship game is a hard one to call, the home side when on form are capable of giving anyone a game if they can get their full side on the field.

Killyclooney had a big opening day win scoring plenty of runs however the wheels came off last week in the National cup they will be hoping to get back to form.

Prediction: Burndennett.

Strabane v Bready

The Red Caps were without a game last week, they have lost their opening two league fixtures which isn’t a big surprise in view of the number of players who have left the club, they will want that first win.

Bready have a lot of talent in their side, a mixture of youth and experience, they are renowned cup specialists and will go into this one full of confidence.

Prediction: Bready.

Newbuildings v Coleraine

A bit of history in this game as it will be the first senior game played on the West Bank since the demise of City of Derry. Newbuildings are relishing the challenge and will be up for it, they had a good National Cup win last week with Peter Allen in good form with the bat.

The Bannsiders were shocked to lose to Muckamore last Saturday and they know that this will be no gimme if back to form they should win.

Prediction: Coleraine.

Eglinton v Fox Lodge

Christopher Pierce’s side struggled with the bat last week with only three players getting into double figures, Stuart Thompson has yet to hit top form but that should soon change.

The Foxies are determined to get back to the Premiership at the first time of asking, they have kept most of last seasons side and their professional has been in excellent form, home advantage may make the difference.

Prediction: Eglinton.

Bonds Glen v Donemana

The Bee Gees couldn’t have picked a tougher opponent when they take on the cup holders, they go into this one without a victory so far and confidence is low, however they will relish the underdogs tag.

Richard Kee’s side exited the Irish cup at the first hurdle and that will have hurt their top five only managed 35 between them so that has to improve and this could be the day where it all comes good.

Prediction: Donemana.

Creevedonnell v Drummond

The Creevies have struggled so far however it is early days, they have not been at full strength yet but will hope to have everybody available for this tie.

Drummond have made a number of shrewd signings with a lot of experience under their belts, they have won their opening two league games and will be favourites to progress.
