Reduced by yet more rain to just six overs per side the defeat was reflective of Ireland’s fortunes in this competition- one they will be very keen to draw a line under.

Having lost their first game to Oman and had their game against Bangladesh washed out, the defeat to the Dutch meant John Bracewell’s side never won game in what was a disappointing experience in India.

After winning the toss and asking the Dutch to bat, left-arm spinner George Dockrell gave Ireland a sizeable advantage with a superb spell of bowling- the spinner claiming figures of 3-7 in his 2 overs of the 6 and reduced Holland to 59-5.

Unfortunately the boys in green were unable to get the total and William Porterfield’s men closed on a disappointing 47-7 from their six overs.

Topscorer for Ireland was opener Paul Stirling who scored 15 runs, but his dismissal resulted in a batting collapse
