CRICKET REVIEW: Kalbhor the difference in Academy league defeat

Excellent half centuries by David Sistern-Tate and Francis Collins laid the foundation for Academy’s imposing 228 for 7 scored in 50 overs, but Sujit Kalbhor’s unbeaten century, helped Woodvale reach a winning 231 for 9 with eight balls to spare on their own patch.

Collins (70) and Andrew Magee (27) gave Academy a solid start with a first wicket partnership of 71, with Collins hitting 11 fours and one six.

Sistern-Tate also smashed three fours and four maximums in his undefeated 70, as he guided his side past the 200-mark, setting the locals a target of 229.

However Kalbhor hit the winning runs in the 49th over, with his 116 not-out containing 11 fours and one six. Other significant scores were provided by Andrew Haire (44) and David Connolly (24).

Waqas Mohammad was Academy’s most successful bowler with 3 for 38, just ahead of Chris Halliday (3 for 42), with support from Sistern-Tate (2 for 41) and Bradley Parry 1 for (46).

Woodvale’s bowling honours were shared by T Browne (2 for 28), A Haire (2 for 45) and T Hill (2 for 49).

Academy secretary Jack Quinn said: “We were very pleased to have posted 228 after taking first knock, but Kalbhor held it together for them. He batted confidently for his unbeaten century and was there at the finish to see them home.”
