CRICKET REVIEW: Larne make it three wins on the spin

Despite missing key players, Larne defeated Dunmurry by five wickets on Saturday. Michael Lyle made the early breakthrough in the Section 3 clash, having the opener held at slip by Chris Keenan before removing the Dunmurry number three, leg before wicket (LBW).

Charlie Cloke took the wicket of Irvine in his second over, caught by Campbell. Skipper Gareth Gaw notched two for 12, bowling one and deceiving his opposite number for LBW.

With Dunmurry on 60 for 5 and 12 overs left, Keenan bowled with guile to return figures of 4-24. Cloke grabbed his second wicket thanks to an excellent catch by Scott Weatherhead and Dunmurry’s innings came to a close in the 37th over, all-out for 94.

Eddie Wilson and Cloke got Larne’s reply off to a solid start with a partnership of 30.

Larne lost Keenan for zero and Trevor Dempsey joined Wilson as they took the score past 50 before Dempsey was caught at slip for nine. Wilson was eventually undone on 20, and when Gary Moore was yorked for one, Larne were wobbling at 60-5.

But Michael Kennedy, along with Neil Campbell, guided Larne to victory without losing any further wickets. Kennedy finished on 12 and Campbell 11 to take the Sandy Bay men over the line.

Skipper Gaw said: “We’re now three from three and want to keep this winning run going on Saturday in what looks like our toughest fixture to date against unbeaten Victoria.”
