David leads run chase

VICTORIA Seconds had a welcome eight wicket victory over CSNI on Saturday in Lurgan Park.

The visitors chose to bat first and were soon in trouble against the bowling of Ben Johnston, who took three for 10, and Steve Johnston, who took three for 18.

CSNI were reduced to 23 for four off ten overs with Matthew Parks taking two catches in the covers.

Tight bowling from Trevor Archer and Trevor Marshall kept the pressure on and straight after drinks Marshall got his reward, bowling McCord with a slow delivery which hit halfway up middle stump.

Marshall took three more wickets, finishing with four for 12, with David McDowell and Steven Adair taking catches.

This left CSNI at 65-8, and it was Ben Johnston, re-introduced to the attack, who took the final two wickets.

Set a target of 85 Victoria openers Stephen Girvan and David McDowell got off to steady start before three consecutive fours by McDowell in the fourth over really put the home side in control.

Girvan was finally removed for 15 with Victoria only needing another 27, thanks to an opening stand of 62. The scoreboard continued to tick over but unfortunately McDowell fell just short of finishing the job, caught on 43 with only nine needed. Despite this minor disappointment the job was done after his 90 minutes at the crease and Victoria had gained a much needed victory.
