Defeat to newly crowned champions

Coleraine 1st XI’s title hopes had effectively ended with the defeat by Brigade on the previous Saturday and the team which travelled to the Holm on Saturday to play Donemana had a distinct end-of-season feel about it.

Coleraine lost the toss and Donemana elected to field. The batsmen struggled against the home side’s bowling attack and wickets fell at regular intervals.

Craig Averill and Paul Douglas came together for a 34 run stand for the 4th wicket but both Averill (38) and Douglas (15) were dismissed in consecutive Junior McBrine overs and from 74 for 3, Coleraine slumped to 115 all out in 44.3 overs.

Coleraine’s bowling reply got off to the best possible start as Donemana’s Pakistani professional Kamran Sajjid was caught by stand-in wicket keeper Stevie Dunn, off the bowling of Gareth Burns with the score on 0.

David Cooke (bowling his first over of the season) then accounted for Donemana’s in-form Captain Richard Kee, courtesy of a fine catch by Johnny Martin, to leave their score on 8 for 2.

Under 19 internationals, Ryan Hunter and Andy McBrine then steadied the innings until Cooke claimed his second wicket by bowling Hunter and Andy McBrine was caught by Paul Douglas off a Rishi Chopra delivery.

Unfortunately for Coleraine, there were to be no further breakthroughs and Graeme Boyd and Ricky-Lee Dougherty added 59 for the 5th wicket to complete a 6 wicket win in 22.1 overs.
