Derriaghy are defeated yet again by Academy

Following their mid week defeat to Academy in the Senior Challenge Cup, Derriaghy travelled to the same opposition on Sunday for a league game and again came out second best suffering a 114 run loss.

Batting first the home side made steady, if unspectatular, progress against a Derriaghy bowling attack that were unable to make defining inroads resulting in Academy amassing 213 for 7 in their 50 overs.

Craig Lewis and Kaushik Aphale were the most successful bowlers capturing 2 wickets apiece for 46 and 57 respectively.

Once again the Queensway men put up a poor showing with the bat when it came to their run chase with only K Aphale showed some stubborn resistance hitting 43 as his side were shot out for 99.

This Saturday Derriaghy are again in league action when they travel to Pollock Park to take on Lurgan.

The 2nd XI also face Lurgan in an Intermediate Cup 1st round match with the game at Queensway.

The 2nd XI suffered two defeats last weekend at the hands of Academy by 7 wickets and away to Downpatrick.

In the match at the Meadow they hit 205 for 7 with S Cairnduff and S Hegarty both hitting 40s, but unfortunately the bowlers failed to make a big impression as the hosts ran out winners with 5 wickets and 7 overs to spare.

The Third XI did provide the club with a win in a closely contested game at Stormont against CSNI IV.

The home side hit 123 for 8, a total that was helped by the bowlers conceding 23 wides.

The stars of the show for Derriaghy were Reece Malone with 3 for 10 and Josh Cardosi 2 for 13. Both these players then proved their all round ability scoring 27 and 22 respectively as their side got home with 10 balls and 4 wickets to spare.

This week the Thirds play neighbours Lisburn in a Lindsay Minor Cup 1st round tie.
