Derriaghy prove to be too strong for Donaghcloney

It was a hot summer’s day last Saturday at Queensway, Derriaghy – but it was one that Donaghcloney’s bowlers will want to forget.

Having won the toss, the home team elected to bat on a hard, fast wicket, and raced to an total of 424-5 in their 50 overs.

And the main executioner was the talented professional Yogash Takawale. He scored an incredible 197 not out in only 25 overs, striking 20 fours and 14 sixes. It was just impossible to bowl to him in this form – his previous two innings have been 195 and 165, and now 197.

Craig Lewis made a quick 70, and Andrew Kenny 55 in support of Takawale.

For ‘Cloney, Mansing Nigade took four wickets and Tim McClure one, but in face of the batting onslaught everyone was expensive.

Donaghcloney’s batting was poor, and the innings crumbled to 78 all out. Mansing Nigade made 30, but no-one else got into double figures. The result was an embarrassing loss by 347.

‘Cloney have a difficult double header this weekend, against two teams chasing promotion. It will be hard work away to Muckamore on Friday and at home to Downpatrick on Saturday.
