Derriaghy record third consecutive win over Laurelvale

Derriaghy recorded their third consecutive win over Laurelvale at Queensway in the Ulster Bank League on Saturday. Batting first the home side were a little disappointed not to total more than the 240 all out they got particularly as they left 5 overs unused. After the loss of two early wickets Yogesh Takawale once again produced a fluent display of batting striking 63 including 4 sixes and 5 fours before falling as he attempted to hit a fourth consecutive maximum. Craig Lewis who struck 21 was also dismissed and at 125 for 6 the hosts looked to be in a not too healthy position.

Things however swung back in the home sides favour when Scott Hughes joined Mark Stinson at the crease. The pair struck some lusty blows and after Mark was dismissed for 26 Scott went on record his maiden 1st XI half century finishing with an undefeated 55 as his side closed on 240.

As with their previous two encounters Laurelvale found the home bowlers difficult to handle and had to work hard for their runs. Craig Lewis was in great form picking up 4 for 24 and was well assisted by Wayne Hughes 3 for 31 and Scott Hughes who took 2 for 24 as the visitors were dismissed for 127 giving Derriaghy a winning margin of 113 runs.

On Saturday Derriaghy Seconds had a surprisingly easy 10 wicket win over their Laurelvale opponents after dismissing them for just 29. Kingsley Beckett with 5 for 10 and Simon Gilmore with 3 for 17 were the only 2 bowlers used as the home side were skittled out inside 15 overs. This week the Seconds are at home to Woodvale.

The clubs’ Third XI couldn’t manage a clean sweep going down by 6 wickets against Saintfield. After posting a reasonable 132, Saintfield wasted little time in passing the required total.

Meanwhile, Derriaghy will face Lisburn in the U11 League Cup Final at Shaws Bridge next Wednesday (August 21).
