Duo claim T20 titles

Ardmore was the setting for the North West T20 finals day and some serious work from the beleaguered grounds staff allowed action to get under way pretty much on time after incessant early morning rain.

Glendermott and St Johnston met for the first of their three games in the next week and the Rectory side were first in to bat.

A decent crowd will have been disappointed that Roy Silva’s innings only lasted a couple of balls - the Sri Lankan dismissed by a stunning one-handed catch from Andrew Fleming, however opener Simon Killen took on the fight in Silva’s unexpected absence.

Of Glendermott’s final total of 123 for 6, Killen’s share was 68 (10 fours and a six), Kushpal Singh the pick of the Saints’ bowling with 3-17.

The reply started really well with another opener, Michael Rankin dominating here as well. The young batsman had made 42 to put his side into a commanding position before Curtis Ross picked up the ball and turned the game on its head.

The Glendermott youngster had figures of 5 for 14 at one point before taking a bit of tap from Kushpal Singh in his final over as the Saints chased runs. They went into the final over needing 13, but when Ian Macbeth holed out to Tyle Moore at long-off from the second ball of Stuart Cochrane’s last, the game was up. Singh tried hard but was stranded on 25 not out at the end as Glendermott celebrated a 6-run win in a superb game.

The Fleming-Agri Faughan Valley match between Coleraine and Donemana was cut short after rain from the covers soaked the square after yet another deluge.

Donemana were 84 for 2 after 11 overs at that point with Andy McBrine in dominant form with a very quick 44 not out and Ricky-Lee Dougherty unbeaten on 19.

It was to be all academic however as the two side’s then couldn’t agree on how they wanted the match decided so it went to the rule book bowl-out.

Junior McBrine and Dwayne McGerrigle were both on target for the Tyrone side as they claimed the cup with a 2-0 shoot-out win.
