Eaglestone soars with wicket haul

Phil Eaglestone was definitely a tired man come Sunday night as Waringstown completed a trio of wins with a seven-wicket Ulster Cup victory over Fox Lodge at The Lawn.

Eaglestone took three wickets against Bonds Glen in the Irish Cup on Friday, five against Dundrum on Saturday but it was the seven for 28 against Fox Lodge at The Lawn that was his most headline-grabbing effort.

The Foxies, by no means the worst side in the North West, were batting first in what should have been glorious conditions, but were blown away in a remarkable spell of left-arm bowling. Iftikhar Hussain was the first to go to a beautiful delivery and that started an extraordinary slump to 16 for six.

When the seventh wicket fell for 32 Waringstown must have hoped to dismiss the visitors for under 50 but Fox Lodge did manage to avoid complete humiliation as Kyle Prince, the South African professional, made an unbeaten 39. However, a final total of 111 all out was never going to represent a serious challenge to Waringstown.

Openers Kyle McCallan (50 from 35 balls) and James Hall (47 from 32) were in a serious hurry as the century came up in 10 overs and three late wickets for no runs didn’t take the gloss off the most comprehensive of victories inside 12 overs.

Friday’s win over Bonds Glen was dominated by a brilliant unbeaten 123 from McCallan,
