Over 100 boys and girls from Straid PS, Tildarg PS, Loanends PS, Fairview PS, Ballynure PS and Kilbride Central showed off their skills in the sunshine.

There were several really close matches and even a tie, but the eventual finalists shone throughout the tournament.

The final between Fairview A and Loanends A was a close affair until the final two Fairview bowlers took the required wickets to claim victory.

The third and fourth place play-off was also very tight with Loanends B eventually getting the better of Ballynure by nine runs.

The competition was split into two pools of six teams with the pool winners playing off for first place and pool runners-up playing off for the bronze position.

“The games were played in bright sunshine and the behaviour and sportsmanship exhibited was a credit to the players and their schools,” said TCC coach Artie Campbell.

“The main emphasis of the day was, of course, on having fun and there were lots of smiling faces from kids and teachers alike, no matter the performance.

“I would like to offer my thanks to Antrim Lions Club for sponsoring the event and David Bingham for presenting the trophies to the winners.

“I would also like to thank the schools and teachers for promoting cricket and for their continued support of our sport.

“Thanks also to Michael Hingston (Cricket Ireland Active Community Coach), and Templepatrick players Andy McCalmont, Jordan Carlisle, Bob Homani and Peter Shepherd for assisting with umpiring and scoring on the day.”

The successful Fairview and Loanends teams won the right to attend the Northern Ireland Kwik Cricket finals at Stormont on Wednesday, June 17.
